From raw material to tire

To satisfy the complex needs and expectations, a tire is manufactured by wrapping multiple layers of special formulated materials through mixing numerus ingredients. These assembly of materials are built up on a drum and then cured in a press under head and pressure which facilitates a polymerization reaction that crosslinks rubber monomers to create long elastic. The tire manufacturing process is traditionally divided into five operation steps, starting from rubber mixing, component preparation, tire building, vulcanization (curing) unit to finished-tire handling and tire storage system. A wide range of belting is necessary for nearly all tire manufacturing steps in high machine running speed to safeguard the conveying and processing of materials in changing heat, pressure, temperature, as well as chemical dosing with the high accuracy of positioning and good easy-release property. OTANI, Tire Co., Ltd. is a Thai home-grown private company officially established in Thailand in 1986, manufacturing various types of commercial tires, tubes, flap and pre-cure tread for Retread. In 2007, Otani expanded its manufacturing and established Otani Radial as a subsidiary with production capacity of 2,500 radial tires per day for trucks and buses and 5,000 radial tires per day for passenger cars.

Ms. Budsakorn K is the Habasit Key Account Manager and when she first approached Otani, Otani was not ready for switching to Habasit brand from their existing supplier until an incident of machine stoppage happened due to sudden belt damage. The Otani team didn’t have spare belts stock locally, neither could their supplier provide the replacement solution to the customer timely. The machine used is built by Karl Eugen Fischer running at high speed of 360 meters per minute and is automated by high precision sensors which require transparent belts that can pass though sensors without causing interruption. The machine is used for tire cord cutting, therefore, the conveyor belt used for this process is required to be cut resistant with high positioning accuracy.

According to research report, Thailand’s tire market is projected to grow at a Compounded Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 8% and is expected to cross $5.6 billion mark by 2022 with tire replacement segment accounts for around two-third of the tire demand in the country in volume terms.
