Tires, arguably the most important component of your car, are the only contact with the roads to make the vehicles accelerate, stop and turn safely. They have to be very efficient, durable and reliable to keep high performance in all weather conditions, save fuel consumption and give passengers a comfortable driving experience.
Machine with damaged belts
Habasit NNT-8EEWE 11
From raw material to tire
To satisfy the complex needs and expectations, a tire is manufactured by wrapping multiple layers of special formulated materials through mixing numerus ingredients. These assembly of materials are built up on a drum and then cured in a press under head and pressure which facilitates a polymerization reaction that crosslinks rubber monomers to create long elastic. The tire manufacturing process is traditionally divided into five operation steps, starting from rubber mixing, component preparation, tire building, vulcanization (curing) unit to finished-tire handling and tire storage system. A wide range of belting is necessary for nearly all tire manufacturing steps in high machine running speed to safeguard the conveying and processing of materials in changing heat, pressure, temperature, as well as chemical dosing with the high accuracy of positioning and good easy-release property. Similarly, both tires and belts are products that are critical components that transmit power and movement, without which, even the best machine in the world would stand still.
Habasit offers tailor-made belting solutions for rubber and tire manufacturing with excellent temperature and chemical resistance, combined with superior release properties and abrasion resistance. Not only that, Habasit’s knowledgeable engineers take into account every factor of production in order to respond with technical support and product selection to best fit the specific and varying needs from customers.
Machine with damaged beltsReadiness to turn emergency into opportunity
OTANI, Tire Co., Ltd. is a Thai home-grown private company officially established in Thailand in 1986, manufacturing various types of commercial tires, tubes, flap and pre-cure tread for Retread. In 2007, Otani expanded its manufacturing and established Otani Radial as a subsidiary with production capacity of 2,500 radial tires per day for trucks and buses and 5,000 radial tires per day for passenger cars.
Ms. Budsakorn K is the Habasit Key Account Manager and when she first approached Otani, Otani was not ready for switching to Habasit brand from their existing supplier until an incident of machine stoppage happened due to sudden belt damage. The Otani team didn’t have spare belts stock locally, neither could their supplier provide the replacement solution to the customer timely. The machine used is built by Karl Eugen Fischer running at high speed of 360 meters per minute and is automated by high precision sensors which require transparent belts that can pass though sensors without causing interruption. The machine is used for tire cord cutting, therefore, the conveyor belt used for this process is required to be cut resistant with high positioning accuracy.
Machine installed with Habasit NNT-8EEWE 11 and production resumed
Habasit not only sells belts, but also professional consultation and technical support with proven understanding of application requirements over the years. Habasit is deeply engaged with customers and always ready in providing right solutions whenever needed with support from technical experts from Global Tire Segment Team - Mr. Cary Zhu, Mr. Victor Lee and Mr. Jens Niepmann. Under this emergency of machine stoppage due to sudden belt damage, Habasit supplied NNT‑8EEWE 11 to Otani as an immediate replacement from ready stock at competitive price. NNT‑8EEWE 11 is a 2-ply polyester belt in white colour with excellent release property, good abrasion and cut resistance and lateral stiffness to bear transversal forces in the process. The NNT‑8EEWE 11 fits into the application well and helps the Otani to resume the production with the shortest downtime. “Habasit helps us in emergency, so we will help Habasit” said the Manager from Otani gratefully. Always being ready with knowledge and resources when needed at customer’s arm-length is what differentiates Habasit from competition. The readiness of the Habasit team helps customers in solving their pain-points timely and transform every challenge into precious opportunity.Tire Market in Thailand
Thailand is world’s number one producer and exporter of natural rubber which is the prime raw material used in production of tires. Fuelled by the favourable investment initiatives promoted by Thai government and the abundant availability of natural raw materials, a large number of renowned international tire manufacturers as well as Thailand home-grown tire manufacturers have their production bases set up with reinvestment in Thailand to ramp up their production capacity. According to research report, Thailand’s tire market is projected to grow at a Compounded Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 8% and is expected to cross $5.6 billion mark by 2022 with tire replacement segment accounts for around two-third of the tire demand in the country in volume terms.
